The celebration is coming! The celebration is coming! Wednesday is the first day of the 236th year of the United States of America’s independence. Time to pull out the barbeques, fireworks and games to celebrate the Fourth of July. How will celebrate? Here are a handful of ideas…
Try your hand at US Trivia. Print off a collection of United States trivia and hold a trivia challenge pub-style. As leader you’ll need the questions, scrap paper and writing utensils for all. Everyone joins a team of two or more. Ask questions in rounds of five or so questions, having teams answer on scrap paper with their chosen team name up top. Collect the papers and talley points in between rounds. The winner gets the pride of knowing the most about the US or maybe even first place in line for food.
Lawn Games. There are so many great lawn games. Look for a inexpensive set at your local store and teach the kids your favorite lawn games from childhood. Games to try could include Croquet, Bocce Ball, Ladder Golf, Horseshoes, Badminton (or Volleyball), Cornhole and more!
Recess Games. Ask your children to teach you their favorite recess games or bring back one from your childhood. You can play four square with just some chalk and a bouncy ball or pull out a long rope and try to recall those old jump rope rhymes.
Good Old American Baseball. Baseball, which became popular in the US in the late 1800s, is known as a great American pastime. Gather as many players as possible and bring baseball back in your neighborhood. Have a lot of young players? Try a game of Tennis Baseball, Tee Ball, Wall Baseball or even Home Run Tag to teach the kids some skills to lead up to Baseball.
