Maryland, MD—September 6, 2017—In a report released today by the renowned, international think tank, the Aspen Institute, Playworks Maryland earned recognition for bringing the power of play to East Baltimore’s school children.
The report, "State of Play: Baltimore," shared 40 findings on the East Baltimore community’s landscape of youth sports, and results from the Institute’s survey of nearly 2,000 youth on their sports interests.
Among the findings were models that help schools provide and manage recess, like Playworks, which can help children overcome obstacles to healthy play, including financial and safety-related barriers.
The findings were shared at the 2017 Project Play: Baltimore Huddle, an inaugural gathering of leaders at the intersection of youth, sports, and health in East Baltimore. Leaders from Under Armour, T. Rowe Price, Living Classrooms Foundation, the Abell Foundation, Baltimore City Department of Recreation and Works, University of Baltimore, Baltimore City Council, and Charm City Youth Lacrosse all participated in the event.
