81st NYCESPA Convention

Date

February 08, 2014

Time

8:15 am - 10:15 am

On February 8, 2014 Playworks will be presenting Revolutionizing Recess: How to stop playground chaos and turn physical activity into a transformative educational tool at the 81st New York City Elementary School Principals Association Conference (NYCESPA). As a result of this interactive and fun presentation:

  1. Attendees will understand the physical, educational, and social benefits of a high-functioning recess and how a positive recess can increase vigorous physical activity while playing a key role in a positive school climate.
  2. Attendees will learn how to increase opportunities for fun physical activity on the playground and play in the classroom to help create a safe, inclusive environment to their school.

Playworks is a national nonprofit organization that transforms schools by providing play and physical activity at recess and throughout the school day through both direct on-site service and professional development for school staff. Playworks has been shown to increase teaching time, reduce bullying, increase physical activity and improve the school and learning environment. The presentation will contain an exploration of play as an essential part of the school day and demonstrations of group management techniques, attention getters, student-lead conflict resolution and (the best part) interactive games! For more information about Playworks in New York City contact David Badillo or call 646-380-1903.

The NYCESPA is put on by the NYC Elementary School Principals Association. The NYCESPA offers an end to the isolation principals may face in their schools by offering many forums for Principals to meet to discuss mutual issues in a spirit of collegiality.
