The Playworks Colorado Regional Board is a group of change-makers who believe in the power of play and are active ambassadors for Playworks. These playful professionals contribute their personal time to share the mission of Playworks: to improve the health and well-being of children by increasing opportunities for physical activity and safe, meaningful play.


Trever Ackerman

Chief Marketing Officer
WellBiz Brands, Inc.

Currently the Chief Marketing Officer of WellBiz Brands, Inc. (Amazing Lash Studio®, Fitness Together®, and Elements Massage®), Ackerman is a veteran of the Health & Wellness industry with a keen sense for adapting to the ever changing and growing landscape. Before joining the WellBiz Brands, Inc. team, Trever served as head of marketing for Les Mills U.S. and 24 Hour Fitness prior to that, where he was responsible for the planning, development, and implementation of marketing, communications, and brand development strategies.

A nontraditional marketer, Trever focuses his efforts on connecting marketing with both top and bottom line growth. Ackerman drives growth by designing programs that differentiate the brands through keen consumer and market insights. He is passionate about building high-performing teams, helping people move more, and providing opportunities to give back to our communities. Trever holds an MBA from Georgia State University and a BSBA from the University of Denver.


Tom Brinegar

Vice President & CFO
Peak Resources 

Tom Brinegar is the Chief Financial Officer for PEAK Resources, Inc. and is responsible for management of all financial, administrative and operational functions at PEAK.  PEAK Resources is an innovative technology and systems integrator focused on the next generation of Data Center designs. Mr. Brinegar has been employed and a part-owner of PEAK since January 1, 1994.  Prior to that time, he was employed at Capital Associates International in Boulder and Lakewood, CO holding a variety of positions including public and private equity syndications, fund management and contracts.

Mr. Brinegar is an alumnus of the Denver Metro Chamber Leadership Foundation programs including Leadership Denver, Colorado Experience and Access Denver.  He serves as a member of the DMCLF Alumni Advisory Council.  Additionally, Mr. Brinegar serves as the Board Chair of PEBC (Public Education Business Coalition), is the President of the Board of the Colorado Nonprofit Loan Fund, is a member of the Advisory Board for Colorado Succeeds, is a member of the Playworks Colorado Board and is a member of the International Advisory Board at the CU Real Estate Center.  Mr. Brinegar also serves as Treasurer of the Board of Directors of the Colorado Charter School Institute as re-appointed by Governor Jared Polis

Mr. Brinegar attended the University of Colorado, Boulder where he received a Bachelor in Science in Finance.  He is a native of Colorado and graduated high school from Grand Junction High School.


Dorian Brugger

Digital Engagement Manager, Vice President 
U.S. Bank 

Dorian is the Digital Engagement Manager and Vice President for the Mountain Region of U.S. Bank, overseeing Denver, Las Vegas, Phoenix, and Salt Lake City.  She works with a team in Minneapolis to drive digital adoption and partner with market leadership to promote the digital strategy and roadmap. Dorian serves on the U.S. Bank Women of Denver Board as the acting Treasurer. Dorian began her career 12 years ago as a teller in the downtown Denver Market and has held multiple roles within the branches.

Dorian grew up in Bozeman, MT, and moved to Colorado upon graduating from high school to attend the University of Colorado at Boulder. Dorian graduated from the University of Colorado at Denver with a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science and History. Unlike many that graduate with a degree in this field, Dorian wanted to follow her passion in Human Rights and be involved with an NGO on social issues. U.S. Bank has allowed Dorian to remain involved in many nonprofits and community organizations that help to improve the community that she lives in. Dorian enjoys traveling, cooking, and spending time with her family in her free time.


Heidi Cooley

Vice President Global Marketing

As Vice President of Global Marketing at Crocs, Heidi oversees brand, marketing, and communications worldwide. Prior to joining Crocs, Cooley was Vice President of Marketing at Sports Authority where she was first introduced to Playworks and the Power of Play.

She is a marketing executive with a proven track record in developing and delivering customer-centric integrated marketing strategies that enhance brand perception and relevance, improve customer conversion and loyalty, and drive ROI for billion-dollar brands. Heidi has a Master of Science in Organizational Leadership from Colorado State University Global and a Bachelor of Science in Business Management from the Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising, Los Angeles. Heidi lives in Denver, Colorado, with her husband and two daughters.


Rick Cord

Vice President of Strategy and Business Development

Rick Cord has enjoyed a diverse professional background that has spanned a variety of roles, industries, and geographies. Since 2011 he has served as the Vice President of Partnerships and Marketing at the USA Pro Challenge—the largest professional cycling event in North America and single largest spectator event in the history of the State of Colorado. Rick’s business (and sports) career began in 1991 when he worked in sales, marketing, and operations with the (NBA) Denver Nuggets and later the (NHL) Colorado Avalanche. After five years he left the sports world to pursue an International Business degree that would lead him to his second career in the technology industry. For 14 years Rick worked with several Fortune 500 telecommunications, networking, and software companies in roles such as business/partner development, project management, M & A, operations, sales, and marketing. His time in technology also afforded him the opportunity to work extensively in building international partnerships in Europe, Latin America, and Asia. With a strong affinity for sports and Colorado, he was eventually drawn back to Denver in 2010 where soon thereafter he began working with the USA Pro Challenge.

Rick is a longtime proponent of sports as an aspect of youth development— fostering basic skills such as problem-solving, teamwork, and a positive work ethic.  He also has a great passion for international travel and photography, having spent time in nearly 50 countries and territories—his passport and camera always at the ready.

Rick earned an MBA in International Business (Finance & Spanish) from the Thunderbird School of Global Management in Arizona and a Bachelor’s Degree in Communications from the University of Colorado.


Lynne Craig

Senior Account Director

Lynne Craig is a Senior Account Director with Fruition, a digital marketing agency, and has over 15 years of marketing experience across multiple industries, including healthcare, e-commerce, hospitality and nonprofit. Lynne is passionate about building strong partnerships with her clients, ensuring deliverables are being met across every vertical, and developing creative, data-driven digital solutions. Lynne’s robust experience in account management has equipped her with an innate ability to anticipate client needs and proactively identify solutions, which helps her move the needle for her clients’ business and grow their digital presence.

Lynne is celebrating 20 years in Colorado, after moving here from Chicago. Lynne’s passions extend outside the office through her involvement as a Board Member for Playworks Colorado, fly fishing in Salida, baking her way through Pinterest, and hanging with Stan-the-dog man and her husband, Jim Kiernan.


Nicole Jura

Senior Manager 
Moss Adams 

Nicole is a Certified Public Accountant and Senior Manager of Assurance at Moss Adams, LLP.   Nicole has over 10 years of public accounting experience at Moss Adams, providing audit services to a wide variety of companies mostly within the manufacturing, technology, and service industries. Prior to Moss Adams, Nicole worked at JDS Professional Group, focusing on the nonprofit sector. Nicole holds a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from Metro State University.

Nicole grew up in the Denver suburbs and now lives and her husband John and their two young children in a historic neighborhood in central Denver. They spend much of their free time visiting neighborhood parks and local restaurants. Being a parent has made Nicole realize the need for an organization such as Playworks, and she is proud to be working with this organization.


Joe Magner

NubesSoft Inc.  

Joe Magner is currently a General Manager and leads overall business development efforts for Darcy Partners. Joe spent the majority of his career before joining Darcy providing investment advice to institutional investors and conducting equity research on the U.S. oil and gas industry for several prominent energy-focused investment banks including Petrie Parkman, Tristone Capital, and Macquarie Capital.

Joe and his wife Katie are proud parents of two kids, Sadie and Reid. In addition to his role on the Playworks Colorado fundraising board, Joe is a volunteer with the Winter Park Ski Patrol and sits on the finance committee at Stanley British Primary School. Joe enjoys spending time in the outdoors with his family, skiing, flyfishing, cycling, and playing golf. Joe earned his B.S. in Business Administration from the University of Colorado at Boulder and his M.S. in Finance from the University of Denver and is a Chartered Financial Analyst charterholder.


Mark Peterson

Market Manager 
Silicon Valley Bank

Mark is a Managing Director in Silicon Valley Bank’s Colorado office. He serves as a banking partner for technology, life science, and clean technology companies of all stages in the Bank’s Pacific Northwest and Southwest regions. Mark is part of the Bank’s Structured Finance team that specializes in providing creative debt and banking solutions for some of the world’s most innovative companies.

Mark is a native of Colorado having grown up in Aurora. He is a graduate of the University of Denver where he obtained his Bachelor of Science and Business Administration with a focus in Economics. Mark enjoys time with his family and friends, participating in community and outdoor events, and local sports teams.


Leila Shamas

Colorado Marketing Leader

Leila is an 11-year marketing professional and serves as Marketing Manager for RSM. She is responsible for all brand and communication-related initiatives in Colorado as well as advancing RSM’s technology and management consulting marketing impact across the firm’s Central Region. Leila holds a Master’s Degree in International and Intercultural Communications from the University of Denver and a dual Bachelor’s Degree in History and Communications & Rhetoric from the University of Pittsburgh, where she also captained the gymnastics team.

Leila and her husband, Brian, are active, grateful parents to three energetic, young sons—Tait, Sage, and Klay. Leila also coaches gymnastics part-time at Pinnacle Academy in Evergreen, CO. After having witnessed the impact of Playworks on school culture, classroom learning environment, and student confidence, combined with her parenting and coaching adventures, Leila is thrilled to work with an organization with such a positive impact on Colorado’s children.


Clayton Sparks

Plante Morgan 

Clayton Sparks is a Certified Public Accountant and partner at EKS&H LLLP. He has over 10 years of taxation and consulting experience and serves clients in a variety of industries, which include commercial and residential real estate, construction, manufacturing, hospitality, and professional services. He is passionate about serving others and building trust, both in the professional setting as well as the greater community. He and his wife Sonja moved to Colorado in 2012, and they welcomed their first child Hayden into the world in June 2015. Being relatively new to Colorado and a new father, he is excited to be involved with an organization that has such a positive impact on children. He received a Bachelor’s of Science in Business Administration from the Eller College of Management at the University of Arizona.


Erin Tatar

Senior Vice President
Fidelity Investments 

Erin is a Senior Vice President within Fidelity’s Workplace Consulting business, serving on the Health & Welfare benefits consulting leadership team. With over 25 years of benefits consulting experience, she is focused on expanding Fidelity’s capabilities around the evaluation and improvement of workforce health and well-being, and the delivery of high-value health care plan benefits. She also provides strategic guidance for health & welfare consulting client relationships.

A native of New Mexico, Erin earned a B.A. in economics and managerial studies from Rice University in Houston, Texas. She moved to Denver with her family in 2005 in order to get back to lifestyle and culture of the mountain West, and currently enjoys hiking, camping and traveling the world with her husband and two teen daughters.
