March’s Corps Member of the Month: Coach Povey

Coach Povey has been presented with the golden trophy award for being March’s AmeriCorps member of the month. Coach Povey came to Playworks with a background in Art History, receiving both Bachelors and Masters degrees in this field from the University of Utah. Her passion for education, as well as enthusiasm and energy make her an exemplary Playworks Coach. Her playground at James E Moss Elementary School is a model of positive language, conflict resolution and increased activity. Due to her outstanding recesses, Moss has been a favorite location for site visits and corporate recesses, and Coach Povey, along with the staff at Moss, have been gracious hosts throughout the year.

What is your favorite healthy snack?

Celery with almond butter and raisins.

What is you favorite game or sport?

Soccer.

What things do you wish for your school year?

To have my students feel important, valued and loved.

Why do you enjoy your job?

The hugs and smiles the minute my students see me, even the ones who totally slaughter my name! I also love building relationships with students of different backgrounds, ethnicities, cultures, etc and treating them with the love and enthusiasm they deserve.

Tell us two fun facts about yourself!

I am a rock climber and also a performer! I did theatre for years and love to sing.
