Coach Colin Makes Excellent Happen

  1. Updates

Coach Colin is a first-year AmeriCorps program coordinator at Mendell Elementary School in Roxbury. He is a natural Playworks coach and has an immense commitment to making a difference in the community. Coach Colin has established great relationships with students, staff, and families at Mendell. He is an important part of the school, ensuring that all students feel safe, healthy, and included.

During December, Coach Colin was able to recruit a girls basketball team for the Playworks basketball league. Not only did he recruit a team, but the girls were eager to learn, practice, create team cheers, and play. The girls were featured in the school newsletter for their great season and dedication to basketball. These basketball players have flourished into leaders — working on their communication, leadership, and teamwork skills.

In addition to building a stellar girls basketball team, Coach Colin continues to make excellent happen through the Billion Mile Race program. Each day at recess, students participate in the Billion Mile Race through the running club. Students have enjoyed running laps and working together as a school to reach their running goal. Coach Colin has also played an integral role in a new social and emotional learning initiative with Playworks. With his incredible personality and positive attitude, we are confident that Coach Colin will continue to make excellent happen throughout Massachusetts.
