Coach Casey Makes Excellent Happen

Coach Casey is a first year program coordinator at the Orchard Gardens K-8 School in Roxbury. Over the course of the school year, Coach Casey has proven to be incredibly responsive, attentive and professional in all aspects of his work. Additionally, Coach Casey has taken the initiative to create weekly meetings with the school administration to help sustain a healthy community and partnership. These check-ins allow for Coach Casey to implement new ideas as well as work the school to improve Playworks programming. Coach Casey has continued to show he is flexible and accommodating to any special requests. He has built an incredible relationships with students, faculty and staff, always wearing a huge smile through the school hallways.

During the month of April, Coach Casey created several new lesson plans for Class Game Times, focusing on social and emotional learning for all of his students. During these individual class sessions, Coach Casey is making it possible for students to learn essential skills relative to the classroom topic for the day. Coach Casey works with teachers to customize Class Game Times to emphasize various skills for the students. He has developed curriculum to help students work on their teamwork, honesty, goal-setting and problem solving skills. Coach Casey has helped transform Class Game Time into an unconventional classroom, teaching students the necessary skills needed to succeed both in and out of the classroom.

Coach Casey continues to make excellent happen at his school and in the community by volunteering to be on the Logistics committee for the annual 5K Run for Recess and 1 Mile Fun Run. He led the 5K Course Tracking Committee, mapped out the course before the event and made sure there were markers on the course for runners to see. Coach Casey is committed to the Playworks Massachusetts movement. With his incredible adaptability and dedication for creating a healthy, inclusive environment for his students, we are confident Coach Casey will continue to make excellent happen throughout Massachusetts.
