Playworks Colorado Kickball Tournament – Rules and Tournament Info

Check-in:

  1. Each participant must turn in their liability waiver to receive a t-shirt and to participate. Liability waivers are found on the registration form and will be available day of.
  2. Check-in will open at 9:00 a.m.
  3. Participants must show a valid ID to drink beer in the garden. 

Team Information:

  1. The maximum team size is 15 players. 
  2. Each team must have gender diversity, with a minimum of four people of a non-majority gender on the team. Based on your team, that may mean at least 4 women, 4 men, or 4 non-binary individuals.
  3. Each team is responsible for the set-up of your area. Feel free to bring blankets, camp chairs, pop-up tents to make you comfortable. 
  4. Participants must show a valid ID to drink beer in the garden. 

Rules & Regulations 

General Rules 

  1. Create a kicking order for each game to allow for a smooth game. 
  2. All fielders playing in the game must kick. 
  3. No more than 11 players on the field at one time.
  4. Fielders can be changed between innings and within innings. 
  5. Teams may choose to have 1st and 3rd base coaches. Coaches may not interfere with play or physically assist the runners. 
  6. Alcohol is not permitted outside of the Garden Area.

Equipment 

  1. Please wear appropriate athletic shoes. No cleats please! 
  2. Please wear the provided t-shirt. 
  3. Players attire is considered an extension of the player. 

Field 

  1. The bases are set up in the shape of a diamond with the bases 60 feet apart.
  2. The “rollers mound” is located halfway between 3rd base and 1st base. 
  3. Cones are used to designate the width of the strike zone. 
  4. Cones will be placed along the foul lines along 1st and 3rd base. 
  5. If the ball touches the foul line, it’s in. 

Player & Team Eligibility 

  1. Each team consists of (max) 15 players, 4 women, 11 players on the field at one time.
  2. Participants must be 18 years or older. 
  3. Top of the kicking order must alternate between men, women, and nonbinary players.

Regulation Game 

  1. 11 players maximum on the field at one time.
  2. Games will be 5 innings or 25 minutes, whichever comes first
    Games must end on an equal opportunities to kick 
  3. Evenly spread out your team, (eg. 3 men cannot kick in a row.)
  4. Rock Paper Scissors will be played by each team’s captain to determine who is the team to kick first and who is the team to field first. Winner of RPS gets to choose to kick or to field first.
  5. If the game is tied at the end of 5 innings or after the time limit, the game will be marked as a tie. 
  6. Once 3 outs or 7 runs have been recorded against a team, their “at kick” is over. Once both teams have kicked, the inning is over.
  7. Base Running Rules
    You can run through first base.
    No bunting, all kicks must at least travel the distance of the pitcher’s mound, or it is considered a foul.
    No sliding. (After one warning, will result in an out)
    No stealing bases.
    No lead offs.
    Cannot impede the runners route
    Runners must stay within the baseline.
    Tagging up is allowed
  8. Pitching Rules
    Ball must be pitched in a way so that it is bouncing as little as possible
    Pitchers should aim to deliver the ball in a controlled and moderate manner to allow all players a fair chance to hit.
  9. Throwing the ball at a base runner between bases is allowed, but throws must be below the shoulders.
    If runner is hit with the ball any time when not on base they are out
  10. Foul balls count as strikes, 4th foul ball you are out. If the ball touches the foul line, it’s in.
    A ball is foul if it lands in bounds but rolls out before first or third base. It is not foul if it lands in bounds and rolls out after first or third base.
    If a fielder attempts to catch a foul ball, but drops it, the ball is live and in play. If a fielder does not attempt to catch a foul ball, it remains a foul ball.
  11. All ties go to the runner, based on the umpire’s perspective.
  12. Umpires have the final say. 
  13. All games must end with a High Five line!
