Rain or Shine, Playworks Plays Ball

  1. Updates

There was much excitement leading up to the Girls Basketball Fiesta at Bahia Vista Elementary on Saturday, December 4th.  After all, it was the first Playworks event held in Marin County. Not only were the players pumped for the event, but school staff got involved as well.  Teachers, support staff, after school coordinators and even the principal planned on attending and volunteering at the event. Additionally, Coach Wayne contacted local high school and college womens' basketball teams to see if they wanted to help at the event and increase the number of positive, female athlete role models for his students.

Needless to say,  when the event was postponed due to rain that morning, everyone involved was disappointed.  Despite the rain, Coach Wayne went to Bahia Vista to make sure that everyone got the message.  To his surprise, he was greeted by 15 girls ready to play rain or shine! For the next two hours the girls were led in a series of passing, dribbling, and shooting drills, honing their skills and playing together. Every girl that attended Saturday said that they are already looking forward to a rescheduled event.  What a success for a rainy Saturday!
