Playworks Indiana to AmeriCorps Members: THANK YOU!

  1. Updates

This week Playworks is celebrating AmeriCorps week. We celebrate our AmeriCorps members’ accomplishments, thank them for their service, and recognize them for everything they do. Our AmeriCorps members go above and beyond, and we are so grateful for them. One day in particular highlighted their dedication, positivity, and eagerness to serve.

On our Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service, one of our members arranged for us to volunteer with Exodus Refugee Immigration in Indianapolis, Indiana. Exodus Refugee Immigration works with refugees — worldwide victims of persecution, injustice, and war — to establish self-sufficient lives in freedom and sanctuary for themselves and their families in Indiana. We were tasked with putting together an apartment for a family of three arriving from Myanmar within the following couple days. Together, we went grocery shopping, assembled furniture, and put everything in its place. Another member created a “Welcome” banner and another hand-made three paintings of flowers to liven up their new home. Each member not only brought their positive energy, but also contributed to a binder full of resources to help the family get acquainted with their new city.

Throughout the day it was apparent how much these AmeriCorps members cared for others and their enthusiasm to help and serve others. Jessica, the Volunteer Coordinator with Exodus Refugee, also noticed by saying, “I wanted to send a BIG thank you to you for volunteering with Exodus Refugee on Martin Luther King Day. You were one of the most fun groups to work with, with your positivity, your fun attitudes, and incredibly welcoming spirits.  The unique ways that you welcomed the family was heartwarming. I was informed that the family loved all of the nice touches you put on the apartment.  The family certainly felt welcomed. So, thank you!”

We would like to echo that thanks. Thank you, AmeriCorps members!
