Intern Reflects on Summer with Playworks Georgia

“You’ve achieved success in your field when you don’t know whether what you’re doing is work or play” -Warren Beatty

Interning at Playworks has been so fun and fulfilling that I often forget it is my job! I study psychology at Emory University and have researched the importance of play in child development, but observing the benefits of a quality recess first-hand completely changed my perspective. Hearing coach testimonials, visiting our elementary schools, and working with such an enthusiastic, dedicated team showed me the incredible impact that Playworks has on the Atlanta community. Through Playworks, kids are given an optimal outlet to express themselves and the tools to grow into awesome human beings.

Throughout my internship, I participated in events such as our first inaugural Corporate Kickball Tournament, AmeriCorps coach graduation, and pre-service training for coaches. Engaging with supporters and coaches gave me a better sense of the friendly and passionate Playworks' culture. In addition to running social media, I wrote blog posts, updated the website, and planned our Giving Tuesday social media campaign (mark your calendars for November 28th)! I am grateful to be able to carry the skills and experiences I gained this summer into the future.

Being able to spread the work of such a great cause on social media has been the highlight of my summer. Sending endless high-fives and thanks to the amazing team at Playworks Georgia for my awesome internship experience!
