Playworks Girls Basketball League a Huge Success

  1. Updates

Playworks Georgia would like to send a big WHOOOOSH clap to all the students and families who came out for our Girls’ Basketball League! Thank you to everyone who participated in our first league of the Spring. Attendance and spirits were high throughout the season, and we’re especially thankful to the KIPP WAYS Academy team for allowing us to fill their gym with fun and games.

Over 80 students from our partner schools participated in weekly practices and game nights in order to build basketball skills, make friends, and have fun. The Playworks basketball league builds empathy and teamwork by teaching students the skills of the sport so that they feel comfortable learning and playing with their peers. In many cases, these Playworks leagues provide opportunities that students may not otherwise have. Engaging in Playworks leagues allow students to become a part of a team that promotes healthy competition and good sporting behavior without keeping score.

The success of the league would not have been possible without rockstar AmeriCorps Coaches Paul, Julia, Kendra, Shakira, Melvin, Justin, and Desi who all did a great job at keeping the children motivated. We also want to send some special shine to our League Coordinator/Program Manager Danyel for putting everything together. We were also glad to see families and friends cheering on the sides and encouraging children from all the different teams. Some even joined in on the fun during our parents vs. kids round!

Playworks Georgia loved watching the children demonstrate our League Values: Respect the Game, Play Hard, and Have Fun!

Join us in March as we keep the fun going for our Co-Ed Volleyball League!
