Playworks Arizona has received a $100,000 grant from the Yelp Foundation, one of several grants totaling $1.2 million allocated by the Foundation in 2015. Of many nonprofits considered for recognition, only three in the Phoenix area were chosen to receive grants.

The Foundation selects grant winners through an extensive consideration process, including input from Yelp employees, who vote to support the nonprofits that best embody the Foundation’s mission of supporting local communities through improved access to information, education, economic development, and freedom of expression.

“Since the Yelp Foundation was established in 2011, I’ve been blown away by the passion Yelp employees have for helping the Yelp Foundation choose deserving nonprofits to support, and this year is no exception,” said Erica Galos Alioto, Yelp Foundation chairperson. “These organizations have already accomplished so much, and I can’t wait see what more they’ll be able to do through this grant.”

The Yelp Foundation grant will allow Playworks to continue its aggressive growth in the Valley where they are currrently serving 28 schools and close to 20,000 low-income K-8 students.

"This is an amazing testament to what we do and why we do it!" said Chuck Warshaver, executive director. "The Yelp Foundation is changing lives, and we thank them for their support!"
