Our Playworks staff sat down with Junior Coach, Demi Lewis on Albert Story School’s playground to learn more about her leadership skills and how they’ve transformed her and her playground throughout her participation in the Playworks Junior Coach Leadership Program.<\/span><\/p>\n

School:<\/strong> Albert Story School<\/p>\n

Favorite subject:<\/strong> Math<\/p>\n

Favorite recess game:<\/strong> Hoop Tag<\/p>\n

Hobbies:<\/strong> jumping rope, throwing the football, drawing<\/p>\n

Future goals:<\/strong> “When I grow up, I want to be an engineer because I am really creative and I like to draw and make things.”<\/p>\n

What motivated you to become a Junior Coach?<\/strong><\/p>\n

I wanted to help kids learn how to play the games right and help them solve their arguments.<\/span><\/p>\n

What is your favorite thing about being a Junior Coach?<\/strong><\/p>\n

I love to learn new cheers. My favorite cheers are “The Milkshake Cheer” and “The Little Red Wagon Cheer.” I lead cheers after the third grade recess and during my class game times. Cheers are important because they are fun and they calm the kids down before they go back to class.<\/span><\/p>\n

What have you learned about yourself since becoming a Junior Coach?<\/strong><\/p>\n

I feel more confident because I know the younger kids look up to me now. I want to be a better leader because I get more respect as a Junior Coach.<\/span><\/p>\n

How has Playworks made a difference at your school?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Recess is more organized so kids pick games to play instead of wandering around. Junior Coaches are there to teach kids how to play the right way so kids choose games and start playing right away.<\/span><\/p>\n

Why do you think Playworks is important?<\/strong><\/p>\n

It makes things organized and more fun. Before kids didn’t know how to play a lot of games, but now we know games and spend more time playing.<\/span><\/p>\n

What do you like most about your coach?<\/strong><\/p>\n
