Our 3rd through 5th <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">grade students received skilled training from the Lakers staff in a variety of basketball practice drills, including shooting, defense, and teamwork. We were honored with <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.nba.com\/lakers\/history\/alumni\/worthy\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">James Worthy<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, Lakers Alumni player, as our guest speaker for this event. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u00a0At the closing of the event, two students were recognized for <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">demonstrating excellent sportsmanship, consistently encouraged their peers by saying, \u201cGood Job!\u201d and playing their hardest while having fun in every drill. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-1006 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.playworks.org\/southern-california\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2017\/10\/IMG_1689-e1512585947821.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"600\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">James Worthy shared with the students the importance of learning team sports and how vital education is to their success. He made the connection between sports and the importance of academics for the students by giving the examples of careers, such as becoming \u201cKobe Bryant&#8217;s accountant\u201d or \u201cLebron James\u2019s Lawyer.\u201d <\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"800\" height=\"532\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1013\" src=\"https:\/\/www.playworks.org\/southern-california\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2017\/10\/775026712_Wizards_Lakers_Bernstein_0124-e1512585650797.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"800\" height=\"532\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1012\" src=\"https:\/\/www.playworks.org\/southern-california\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2017\/10\/775026712_Wizards_Lakers_Bernstein_0039-e1512585627545.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Matthew Trujillo and Kayla Lainez Oliva, two students that were selected to demonstrate teamwork and positive attitude during the clinic, were awarded courtside tickets to the Lakers game on Wednesday, October 25, 2017.
