On Wednesday, February 24, 2016 after school, over 60 Junior Coaches from Playworks partner schools in Los Angeles and Inglewood Unified School Districts attended the Junior Coach Leadership Retreat at Flournoy Elementary School. The Olympics themed event included the maze game, ro-sham-bo relay race, and flag tag with teams representing Mexico, Canada, Ethiopia, Panama, Brazil, Venezuela, Nicaragua, Egypt, Australia, and USA. Approximately 150 Junior Coaches from Norwalk La Mirada Unified School District attended the Junior Coach Leadership Retreat at Morrison Elementary School. The Star Wars themed event was called “May the Force of Positivity Be With You.” Activities included “Chewbacca relay,” “use the force,” “space ball,” and “capture the Yoda.”<\/p>\n
After school the following day, approximately 120 Junior Coaches from 11 Santa Ana Unified School District Playworks schools attended the annual Junior Coach Leadership Retreat held at Monte Vista Elementary School. The Disney Inside Out themed activities and games focused on conflict resolution and teamwork. Junior Coaches started off with the icebreaker "Emo-lution", which is a combination of our famous ro-sham-bo "Evolution" game and the four emotions: Fear, Sadness, Anger, and Joy! Then, Junior Coaches were divided into four teams, using each of the emotions as team names. Playworks coaches ran fun and engaging stations to build teamwork and encourage Junior Coach teams to make new friends. They ended the event "Joyfully" with some delicious pizza for all their hard work. Pizza was provided by Pronto Pizza in Santa Ana on 1st and Raitt Ave.<\/p>\n
