Coach Mike is a first year coach at Y.E. Smith Elementary in East Durham. In just a few short months, Coach Mike has stepped in and stepped up to being a stand-out coach.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" height=\"225\" src=\"\/files\/resize\/com-mike-300x225.jpg\" style=\"height: 225px; width: 300px; margin: 10px; float: right;\" width=\"300\" \/>When a last-minute field trip to a Duke Women&#39;s Basketball game came up, Coach Mike quickly organized kids, parents and teachers to attend the game. He helped make sure everyone had rides and that transportation was not an issue.<\/p>\n<p>He has also implemented a &quot;Teacher of the Month&quot; reward system that acknowledges the great teachers that make his job at Y.E. Smith much easier.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to doing the little things to run a strong program, Coach Mike can be found volunteering throughout the community. Whether he is showing up to a service project with the AmeriCorps members, supporting initiatives through <a href=\"http:\/\/edci.org\/\">East Durham Children&#39;s Initiative<\/a>&nbsp;or helping coach a soccer team at his school, Coach Mike makes sure he gives back.<\/p>\n<p>Coach Mike&#39;s energized personality and ability to bring out the best in others makes him adored by his students. One student refused to leave school one afternoon until&nbsp; he was able to find Coach Mike and make sure Coach Mike received one his birthday cupcakes!<\/p>\n<p>This month we give a huge &quot;<em><strong>Superman Clap<\/strong><\/em>&quot; to our Playworks Durham Coach of the Month Mike Bartlett.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Get to know Coach Mike:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Favorite Game:<\/strong> Sprout Ball<\/p>\n<p><strong>Favorite Cheer<\/strong>: Why I ate the Pie<\/p>\n<p><strong>Favorite thing about Durham:<\/strong> The Durham Bulls Athletic Park<\/p>\n<p><strong>If you could have any super power what would it be and why? <\/strong>The ability to transport myself anywhere in time!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Mike Bartlett is Plaworks Durham Coach of the Month for November.
