Playworks Northern California was named a winner of an online grant competition hosted by The David and Lucile Packard Foundation and Ashoka Changemakers. The\u00a0Building Vibrant Communities: Activating Empathy to Create Change<\/a>\u00a0challenge sought local initiatives that tap the power of empathy to strengthen communities and equip young people to become leaders of change. Playworks Northern California will receive $100,000 to support its work in Silicon Valley schools to activate empathy among the future leaders of our community.<\/p>\n

\u201cSo much exciting work to foster empathy is happening in our five-county region and neighboring communities,\u201d said Carol Larson, President and CEO of the David and Lucile Packard Foundation.\u00a0\u201cWe are particularly encouraged by the six winning organizations which are actively cultivating empathy skills. It is their hope and ours that local communities will be strong and vibrant places where future generations can reach their full potential as community builders and problem solvers.\u201d<\/p>\n

Six winners were selected by a\u00a0<\/span>panel of judges<\/a>\u00a0from a pool of more than 200 entries received from Northern California community organizations. The announcement was made by Carol Larson, President and CEO of the David and Lucile Packard Foundation, and Bill Drayton, CEO and Founder of Ashoka.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
