While past studies explored the benefits related to the amount of recess time, this is the first study to address the benefits based on the overall quality of recess. As a result, the primary purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between recess quality and social, emotional, and behavioral outcomes in children.<\/p>\n<h6>Researchers found that high-quality recess significantly predicted the following student behaviors:<\/h6>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Executive functioning:<\/strong> the cognitive skills that help a child focus attention, remember details, solve problems, and make plans.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Resilience:<\/strong> the ability to overcome adversity, quickly recover from mistakes, cope with change, and solve problems.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Emotional self-control:<\/strong> the ability to resist immediate temptations and avoid acting on impulse in response to environmental changes.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Positive classroom behavior:<\/strong> adaptability, functional communication, leadership, social skills, and study skills.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>By gaining a better understanding of the value of a high-quality recess, this study highlighted the importance of an increased focus on how to support students so that they engage in beneficial and meaningful ways on the playground.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a class=\"button button--primary\" href=\"https:\/\/www.playworks.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/Recess-Outcomes-Study-2019-One-Pager-Only-v3.pdf\">Read more<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A recent study by the Oregon State University College of Public Health and Human Services found that high-quality recess contributes to the executive function, emotional self-control, resilience, and positive classroom [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":3,"featured_media":2289,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_acf_changed":false,"footnotes":""},"categories":[1],"tags":[],"region":[],"class_list":["post-2288","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-updates"],"acf":[],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v27.0 -
