While most schools opt for indoor recess when snow is on the ground, Coach Shelby grabbed a shovel and created a pac-man court on her turf field, facilitating a high-energy game of <\/span><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span style=\"color: #438bc5;\"><a style=\"color: #438bc5;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.playworks.org\/game-library\/pacman-tag\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Pac-Man Tag<\/span><\/a><\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. To encourage physical activity, she has students compete in races while they wait for their teachers to meet them at the end of recess. Even when she was coaching on Zoom during the pandemic, she found creative ways to get students active, involved, and connecting with each other through creative games and activities.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cCovid didn\u2019t stop Coach Shelby at all,\u201d says Ms. Schooler. \u201cWe still had our weekly Class Game Times and had just as much engagement virtually as in person.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Coach Shelby has a way of making every single student feel special. If there\u2019s ever a birthday, she sings an elaborate birthday song, complete with a cartwheel, to celebrate.
