Each year during AmeriCorps Week, Playworks recognizes the commitment of our AmeriCorps members by highlighting the extraordinary impact they make across the nation every day. This year, from March 4\u201311, we will be celebrating\u00a0AmeriCorps Week by saluting\u00a0members and alums for their service, thanking community partners, and sharing\u00a0about how #AmeriCorpsWorks with stories from the communities we serve. Playworks AmeriCorps members have been #GettingThingsDone\u00a0by making playgrounds safer and more fun for thousands of children across the country.<\/p>\n

Playworks New England is proud to participate in AmeriCorps Week\u00a0and recognize our group of AmeriCorps coaches! Below, each AmeriCorps member\u00a0describes why it is important to serve.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Andrea Tran\u2013<\/strong>“<\/span>I serve because <\/strong>. . . I know the impact I can make with the kids. By serving, I am helping students to learn how to be kind to others, through playing games, doing recess, and class game time.”<\/em><\/p>\n

Christopher Fimani\u2013<\/strong>“<\/span>I serve because<\/strong> . . .\u00a0I like watching people succeed and do great things and I will do whatever I can to help that.\u201d<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

Colin McDonough\u2013<\/strong>“<\/span>I serve because <\/strong>. . .\u00a0<\/strong>there are a lot of children who unfortunately have rough childhoods. By being there for them, there\u2019s a chance their adulthood will be better. Some of the mistakes they\u2019re making in school can be changed before they are too old. There have been\u00a0so many people in my life that have helped, encouraged, and supported me. I don\u2019t have the\u00a0capability to pay them back, so I have to pay it forward.\u201d<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

Fidelis Teixeira\u2013<\/strong>“I serve because <\/strong>. . .\u00a0<\/strong>the most important things\u00a0to me are being able to work a job that tests your abilities but also doing it while feeling the true impact of the community.”<\/span><\/em><\/div>\n

Gregory Barnes\u2013<\/strong>“<\/span>I serve because <\/strong>. . .\u00a0every person is a collection of experiences. I wouldn\u2019t be who I am if so many people hadn\u2019t cared about me in my lifetime. So I choose to use portions of my life to do the same.”<\/span><\/em><\/div>\n

Kendall Williams\u2013<\/strong>“<\/span>I serve because <\/strong>. . .\u00a0<\/strong>Helping the community, spreading kindness to my neighbors, and showing compassion have always been a part of me. Serving gives me a great sense of fulfillment, knowing it is for the good of humanity.”<\/span><\/em><\/div>\n

Manny Fuentes\u2013<\/strong>\u00a0“<\/span>I serve because <\/strong>. . .\u00a0I grew up in the community that I serve. I want to give back to the community that gave so much to me. Serving with AmeriCorps has given me the opportunity to make a difference in a young child’s life.”<\/em><\/div>\n

Being able to work with the students at the Gardner Pilot Academy every day has made me appreciate my job and my service to the community.”<\/em><\/div>\n

Through AmeriCorps\u2019 service, I can help erase hate and discriminating thoughts with kids at a young age. The future is shaped through the success of the community and the kids so it\u2019s crucial to serve.”\u00a0<\/span><\/em><\/div>\n

Stella Ajayi\u2013<\/strong>“<\/span>I serve because <\/strong>. . .\u00a0<\/strong>there are many changes I would love to see happen in my\u00a0community. I serve to build relationships, meet new people, and give back to my city. I serve to create peace. I serve to see what changes are made and what is still in need of change. The\u00a0Massachusetts Service Alliance<\/a>\u00a0(MSA), established in 1991, is a private, nonprofit organization that serves as the state commission on service and volunteerism. MSA promotes and supports service and volunteerism by investing public and private resources in community-based organizations that rely upon volunteers and people engaged in service to meet their community’s needs.\u00a0MSA administers the AmeriCorps State program for Massachusetts and the Commonwealth Corps program, as well as support for community service learning, and volunteer generation initiatives.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
