Coach Claire greeted participants with a smile at this year’s Run for Recess<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Coach Claire is a first year AmeriCorps Coach at the Neighborhood House Charter School in Dorchester. Although Claire only started in January, she is already making a difference in the school community at the NHCS.<\/span><\/p>\n

From day one, Coach Claire set high expectations for students–especially for Junior Coaches. Coach Claire empowers Junior Coaches to take their jobs seriously, complete their school work, and set a good example for their peers. Junior Coaches at the NHCS have been so successful that one of them was featured in a story by the Boston Globe<\/a> this April. <\/span><\/p>\n

But Coach Claire\u2019s positive example isn\u2019t only impacting Junior Coaches. Principal Cara McCarthy shared a story about a recent interaction between students at the NHCS:<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThe other day two first grade students were fighting over a seat and the teacher said, \u2018How can you solve this?\u2019<\/strong> Both students said, \u2018Rock, paper, scissors.\u2019<\/strong> They did one round and the student who lost the round handed the chair to the student who won. It was a great moment to see how the work Claire is doing transfers to the classrooms and beyond.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

This month, Claire shared her positive energy with the entire Playworks community at our Run for Recess 5K and 1-mile Fun Run. Coach Claire greeted every participant with a warm welcome at the registration table, and then cheered on runners as they finished the race. Many of Coach Claire\u2019s students were in attendance!<\/span><\/p>\n

We’re proud to have an energetic and dedicated coach like Claire representing Playworks in the Boston community. We are confident that she will continue to make an impact at the NHCS for the remainder of the school year.<\/span><\/p>\n
