Coach Brandon is a returning program coordinator familiar with\u00a0the mission and values of Playworks. Entering his third year with Playworks Massachusetts, he has returned to Boston Teachers Union Pilot School in Jamaica Plain. Coach Brandon has been able to build an incredible relationship with students, teachers, staff and families at the school over the three years he has serving\u00a0BTU School. In fact, every student at the BTU\u00a0knows Coach Brandon and has participated in Playworks programming. Coach Brandon has perfected the concept of making excellent happen at his school, creating an environment where all students feel safe, included, respected and ready to learn.<\/span><\/p>\n

During the month of September, Coach Brandon began to recruit 4th and 5th grade\u00a0students for his Junior Coach Leadership Academy. Over the course of three years, Coach Brandon has created a culture at BTU where all students want to become a Junior Coach. These Junior Coaches serve as leaders in and out of the classroom and develop the skills needed to learn, lead and thrive in the school community. To launch the 2014-15 Junior Coach Leadership Program on an exciting note, Coach Brandon created an incredible\u00a0newsletter to give to school staff and parents of Junior Coaches. This newsletter congratulated the Junior Coaches on being selected, provided readers with more background about the program\u00a0and gave an outline of the school year. Coach Brandon plans on sending out a weekly newsletter to school staff and families with new announcements.<\/p>\n

Coach Brandon continued to make excellent happen at the Boston Teachers Union Pilot School by ensuring that middle school students still have Playworks programming and opportunities. He has been able to reach out to sixth grade Junior Coach alumni to continuing serving as positive peer role models at their middle school recess. This year Coach Brandon will be serving middle school recess allowing middle school students to remain physically active in a safe, healthy and inclusive manner. Finally, Coach Brandon is assisting the school in organizing a 5K run focused on bringing BTU families and friends together on the weekend. We are sure that Coach Brandon\u2019s outgoing personality and amazing dedication to the Playworks movement will allow Coach Brandon to continue to make excellent happen throughout Massachusetts.<\/span><\/p>\n
