Playworks CEO and Founder Jill Vialet recently released Recess Rules, <\/em>the story of a group of kids determined to save recess at their school. <\/span>As a Playworks nationwide initiative to get students reading, copies of these books were delivered to thousands of Junior Coaches across the country. When Playworks announced Junior Coaches would be able to join an Online Book Club, Coach Sinddy and the Junior Coaches at the Dever-McCormack School jumped at the opportunity. During the online book club, principal Sarah McLaughlin initiated a challenge with Jill, asking her if all the fifth grade students read Recess Rules<\/em>, would she be interested in coming to Boston to speak to the students in person. Jill accepted the challenge and sent copies of the book to the Dever-McCormack school the very next day. There are now 90 fifth graders participating in the challenge, reading the books and writing a response. Students have until mid-May to complete the book and the reading response question. Once they hand in the response, they earn a Golden New Balance Sneaker, which will be their admission to a Recess Rules<\/em> party for 5th graders and a "Meet the Author" session.<\/p>\n

Coach Sinddy has put in an enormous amount of effort to make sure this challenge is a huge success, encouraging students to read whenever they have free time. When this challenge is completed, Coach Sinddy hopes that her students have an increased desire to read, learn and play. She is excited for the opportunity for her students to meet the founder of Playworks, many of her students are hoping to invite Jill to a game of four square during her visit!<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
