Coach Akeem is a second year program coordinator who has fully encompassed the core values of Playworks. In his second year with Playworks Massachusetts, Coach Akeem returned to the Lee School in Dorchester. Over his two years at the Lee School, Coach Akeem has been able to transform the school community into a place where all students feel safe, welcome, and ready to learn. Coach Akeem has been essential in creating a school environment where all his students have the opportunity to learn, lead and thrive. He has built incredible relationships with students, faculty and staff, always wearing his brightly colored fanny pack and enormous smile whenever he walks the hallways.<\/span><\/p>\n

In March, Coach Akeem sparked the creativeness and imagination of his students by inventing new games, competitions and challenges for each week. He recently invented a relay race game based off the incredibly popular video game Mario Kart<\/em>. He knew that his students loved playing this video game, however, wanted to make sure everyone was staying physically active. Coach Akeem took this video game and turned it into a relay race which involved hula hoops, running and high-fives. Additionally, Coach Akeem creates challenges for his students to try new games. Each time a student tries a new game they earn a star, the classroom with the most stars at the end of the week earns a surprise from Coach Akeem!<\/p>\n

Coach Akeem also hosts\u00a0a group of New Balance volunteers each month. Each time the volunteers come to school, Coach Akeem creates a welcome sign and has students greet the volunteers with a fun cheer, ensuring the volunteers are set up for success and feel welcomed so they can have a wonderful time at recess. Coach Akeem is committed to the Playworks Massachusetts movement. With his dedication and passion for creating a healthy, fun and safe environment for his students, we are confident Coach Akeem will continue to make excellent happen throughout Massachusetts.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
