The 3rd Annual Playworks\u00a0Get in the Game Luncheon and Game Changer Awards was a huge success!<\/h3>\n

A big WOOSH CLAP and thanks go out to the more than 300 individuals who attended.\u00a0<\/strong>We’d also like to send a special thank you\u00a0to all of our sponsors,\u00a0awardees and those who donated to Playworks!<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

The Playworks 2014 Get in the Game Luncheon and Game Changer Awards<\/em> is a signature event to recognize individuals, companies and organizations that are making a positive impact on the well-being of Michigan, specifically Detroit.<\/p>\n

Attendees\u00a0included\u00a0award recipients, sponsors and their guests, honorary committee members, foundations, corporate, business and government leaders.<\/p>\n

This hour and a half interactive luncheon\u00a0began with recess games, a Playworks photo gallery and mingling, followed by a pre-set lunch,\u00a0videos highlighting the Playworks mission, an inspirational message from Playworks founder, Jill Vialet, Game Changer Awards\u00a0and closing remarks.<\/p>\n

GAME CHANGER AWARDS<\/h3>\n

Award recipients were selected by public nomination, Playworks staff and board based on four Playworks core values as well as community service. The following organizations have been nominated:<\/p>\n

Founder\u2019s Award\u2013\u00a0The Detroit Lions\u00a0\u2013<\/strong> For their ongoing support and promotion of Playworks through the Living for the City<\/em> campaign and the Detroit Lions Play 60<\/em> initiative. Through this partnership, the Detroit Lions are truly making a difference in improving the health and well-being of children in Detroit.<\/p>\n

Chairman\u2019s Award\u00a0\u2013\u00a0MGM Grand Detroit\u00a0\u2013<\/strong>\u00a0This award is reserved for an organization that has changed the trajectory of Playworks, and MGM Grand Detroit is the first-ever recipient. MGM Grand Detroit\u2019s ongoing financial support and employee volunteerism is truly making a difference for the well-being of children in Detroit.<\/div>\n

Healthy Play \u2013 HYPE Athletics<\/strong> \u2013 For creating and strengthening infrastructures that support the positive development of Wayne County youth through athletic participation and competition, educational tutoring and\u00a0literacy development, and social awareness including mentoring, counseling, life skills training and substance abuse education and prevention.<\/div>\n

Healthy Community \u2013 PNC Bank\u2019s Grow Up Great<\/em> Program\u00a0<\/strong>\u2013 Through Grow Up Great<\/em>, PNC emphasizes the importance of the first five years of life, which research has shown is critical to long-term\u00a0achievement, by helping families, educators and community partners provide innovative opportunities that enhance learning and development in a child’s early years.<\/div>\n

Respect \u2013 The Ideal Group\u00a0<\/strong>\u2013 For respecting the capacity of every individual to make a difference in their community through job development and community engagement. The Ideal Groups history of engaging all\u00a0members of the community from hiring its first Work Pass Program employee, establishing GRACE in the 1990’s, providing internships to local students, as well as collaborating with critical organizations and initiatives\u00a0that empower residents in southwest Detroit.<\/div>\n

Community-building \u2013 Loretta V. Davis \u2013<\/strong> For her work with the Institute for Population Health. IPH activities advance the communities capacity to improve health and to reduce disparities among population groups and geographic areas.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
Community Service \u2013 Young Detroit Builders<\/strong> \u2013 A non-profit organization that has been offering a comprehensive program of education, support services, counseling, leadership development, job and life skills\u00a0preparation, on-the-job residential construction training and NCCER certification since 1996. Students earn a modest living allowance while participating in this full-time, 10-month training program. Giving back to\u00a0the community is a major focus of YDB, and students participate in community service projects throughout the program.<\/div>\n
