January 21, 2019\u2014<\/span><\/i>Martin Luther King Jr. Day is more than a national holiday for Playworkers; it\u2019s a call to action to get out and serve our communities in ways beyond our everyday mission. The Playworks Colorado team partnered with three different organizations across Denver to make an impact and honor the memory of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.<\/span><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

With the support of the Denver Parks and Recreation team, Playworkers mulched trees and cleaned up Cheesman Park alongside City Year AmeriCorps members. Wheelbarrows piled high with mulch flew across the park, spreading a total of 36 cubic yards to protect the beautiful evergreens that decorate Cheesman Park. Park goers and passersby commented and thanked the volunteers for doing their part in beautifying their community!<\/span><\/p>\n

At St. Paul Health Center, a long term senior care community, Playworkers did what they do best: running games! Residents from all different backgrounds and abilities joined together to share stories, play games, and revel in the magic that only Playworks can bring.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Playworks Coaches were thrilled to have the opportunity to share their talents with the elderly and demonstrate what they\u2019re doing for the young people in our communities every day.<\/span><\/p>\n

The third group of Playworkers donated their time to the Resource Area for Teachers (RAFT). RAFT Colorado is a local nonprofit that connects thousands of teachers with the inspiration and resources that students need to work, think, and innovate creatively. Playworkers helped organize and sort materials, display resources, and assist with the upkeep of the facility, so all teachers can have access to a variety of incredible educational resources. <\/span><\/p>\n
