Hockey Extravaganza to End Another Successful League of Floor Hockey

Two hundred Playworks students and their families piled into the gymnasium at Farrell B. Howell ECE-8 School to celebrate the end of another successful hockey season. For the past four years, Playworks has partnered with the Colorado Avalanche and Kroenke Sports Entertainment to provide all Playworks Coach partner schools the opportunity to participate in a full-scale hockey league. Playworks AmeriCorps Coaches, with the advice and support of Avalanche pros, use this league to introduce their students to the sport, hone participants’ skills, provide an active, engaging after-school activity, and foster a spirit of teamwork and collaboration within their school.

On Wednesday evening, Nikita Zadorov, A.J. Greer, Bernie the St. Bernard, and the Avalanche Ice Girls joined the Playworks staff in running hockey games, dishing out high fives, and promoting safe and healthy play. Playworks students decked out in full Avalanche gear had the opportunity to show off their skills in games like Sharks and Minnows Hockey, Monkey in the Middle, and Shuttle Passing. Floor hockey balls flew through the gym, and Avalanche hockey sticks slapped the floor as participants reveled in the controlled chaos. Ear-to-ear smiles were shared by all, and the event was a rocking conclusion to an already tremendous season!

Thank you to Kroenke Sports Entertainment and the Colorado Avalanche for their incredible support this season, to Farrell B. Howell ECE-8 School for hosting, and to all of our amazing Playworks students and parents for joining us in spreading the play movement!
