About Playworks Washington, D.C.

Playworks launched in six schools in Washington, D.C. in fall, 2006, the second city on the east coast to become a Playworks site. During the 2011-2012 school year, we are serving 15 schools in the nation’s capital, bringing play to more than 4,000 elementary school students every day. Teachers and principals are excited about the impact Playworks is having in their schools- both on and off the playground.

"A Playworks Coach is a teacher, a friend, a source of comfort, a source of entertainment, and a strong source of motivation. Students crave the chance to be around the smiling face and high energy of their PC. Because Playworks offers the opportunity for students to have a recess void of chaos, it allows for teachers to have the opportunity to actually play with their students! And when a student sees his or her teacher throwing a football, swinging a jump rope, twirling a hula hoop, or shooting a three-pointer, it shows the student that we are all more similar than they would have otherwise realized.
