Discipline Issues Show 35% Decline

We are hearing terrific feedback from our principals, teachers, and school staff here in Los Angeles about the effectiveness of our programming.  After a teacher training we led at one of our schools in LAUSD to introduce the Playworks methodologies to the entire staff and to engage them in play, one of the teachers said “This was a great training! I've worked in this district for 32 years and this is the best training we've had.  For teachers like me, who have been working for so long, I am always trying to learn new things – this was perfect."

"...When I saw kids doing that 'rock, papers, scissors thing' before, I did not know what was going on, and now I can do it right along with them!”

The impact we are having really came to life a couple of weeks ago in one of our schools in the Inglewood Unified School District. One of our program managers was stopped in the hallway by an administrator who said “I knew Playworks was making a huge difference because our office has not been busy from conflicts and injuries during recess and lunch. But it wasn't until I looked at the suspension numbers when I really saw what Playworks had done. At this time last year we had 30 suspensions. This year we have only had two.”

Another of our principals just shared a similar story.  He said that suspensions have gone down from 12 last year at this time to only one this year and recess referrals have gone down from 40 last year at this time to 26.  He believes that it is because of Playworks and is thrilled to see the effect Playworks is having at his school.

These great results are thanks to the tireless effort and dedication of our remarkable staff in LA, and thanks to the support we get from our phenomenal schools.  Play on!
