Denver Board Members

Rose Barcklow
Rose Barcklow currently works with the Tony Grampsas Youth Services (TGYS) grant-making program located within the Department of Public Health and Environment.  TGYS’s goals are to reduce youth crime and violence and child abuse and neglect.  Prior to her work with TGYS, Rose worked for Denver Public Schools for 6 years coordinating before and after school programs for middle school youth.  Through this work she discovered that play was missing in many of the children’s lives.  In order to learn how to bring play back,  Rose received her Master’s degree in Sports Pedagogy from the University of Northern Colorado.   As an avid soccer player she learned early on the value of play and continues to search out playful opportunities as often as possible.  Rose loves what Playworks represents and is always looking for a good game of four-square.

Valerie Perrone Daniels
Valerie has been working for lululemon athletica for 5 years where she holds a role as the Colorado Franchise Business Manager for the 3 Denver/Boulder stores.  She is passionate about elevating the health and well-being of those around her.  In her role with lululemon athletica, she loves connecting with health and fitness leaders across the Denver/Boulder communities.  Joining the Playworks board has been an exciting opportunity for her as she believes that it is critical for adults to teach kids the importance and enjoyment of leading a healthy lifestyle.  Valerie is a Colorado native, married with 2 dogs, a graduate of the University of Colorado and also underwent graduate studies with Colorado State University.  She loves spending her free time being active, practicing yoga, and eating good food with her family and friends.

Whitney Johnson
Whitney is a Program Officer with the Anschutz Family Foundation.  Previously, she worked in nonprofits both nationally and internationally with a focus on community organizing and youth programming.  One of her favorite jobs was as a site coordinator for two years with Sports4Kids/Playworks in an elementary school in Oakland, CA.  She is now thrilled to come full circle with the organization and join the board of directors!  Whitney completed her undergraduate and graduate degrees from Miami University, Ohio.  Whitney enjoys all kinds of activities including climbing, skate skiing, and backpacking and believes that sports can be an incredible tool for youth empowerment and health.
