The Power of Play
Playworks went back to school in 2011-12 with our most ambitious year ever. Through training and direct service, we served nearly a quarter of a million youth. Our direct service expansion was the most aggressive to date, spanning from the East Coast to the West, and all regions in between. We served more than 300 schools in 23 cities nationwide, providing play and physical activity every day. Through our direct service, trained, full-time adults, known as "coaches," engaged more than 130,000 students in low-income schools at recess and during class game time, supporting youth leadership programs, and running non-school time programs and developmental sports leagues.
Through Playworks Training, we served an additional 100,000+ youth across the country. Some 3,545 individuals in nearly 500 schools and organizations in all areas of the US went through our training programs in the last year, furthering our mission to ensure that every child has the opportunity to play every day.

Playworks full-time program works exclusively with low income schools, where at least 50 percent of students qualify for free or reduced lunch. Our plan is to serve 27 cities across the country and more than 600 low-income schools by 2012 through direct service. We also provide comprehensive training and consulting support around the country, training adults to bring safe, healthy and inclusive play to more than 1 million students by 2013. To learn more, check out our training section.
