Day in the Life Example

Playworks Corps Members are full-time AmeriCorps members, responsible for planning and implementing play and physical activity programming in school and outside of school hours at one public elementary school.

Below is a typical day's schedule at school for a Playworks Corps Member.

Schedule differs somewhat between schools

8:00 - 8:15 a.m.

Arrive at school, check into the front office and give High-5's to students as they get off the bus and enter school.
 Note: Some Playworks Corps Members run a Before School Recess to energize students of all ages before the school day.
8:15 - 9:30 a.m.Finish paperwork, check Playworks emails and return any phone calls
9:35 - 9:45 a.m.Review lesson plans for today's Class Game Times
 Set-up equipment and prep for first class
9:45 - 10:15 a.m.Lead first Class Game Time
10:15 - 10:20 a.m.Set up playground for Recess: check for hazards, chalk lines and set out cones
10:20 - 10:55 a.m.Go over lesson plans for second Class Game Time and gather equipment
 Lead second Class Game Time
10:55 - 11:10 a.m.Check-in with Junior Coaches and assign tasks for Recess
 Check-in with any Volunteers and assign tasks
11:10 - 1:00 p.m.Run Recess with various grades
 Start playing game of the week and then move around the playground to join other games
 Help Junior Coaches facilitate Recess tournaments
 Check-in with Junior Coaches about how Recess went
 Clean up equipment from the play area
1:00 - 1:30 p.m. Take a lunch/bathroom break
1:30 - 1:45 p.m. Go over lessons for third Class Game Time
1:45 - 2:15 p.m. Lead third Class Game Time
2:15 - 2:45 p.m.Make lesson plans for next week

Afternoon/evening/weekend activities may include one of the following:

Attend training, coach co-ed sports leagues, facilitate training for Junior Coaches, plan for/attend school community service projects
