Playworks Wisconsin Girls Basketball 2017!

Studies show that if a child does not play a team sport by the age of ten, chances are they never will during their educational career. Many students lack the skills and confidence to try a new sport. Through non-competitive after-school girls basketball, Playworks coaches provide fourth- and fifth-graders with a positive team experience.

Trends suggest that youth involvement in sports promote positive social values, higher self-esteem, and a healthy lifestyle. Additionally, reports have shown that girls participation in sport is three times lower than that of boys, often due to lack of affordable opportunities.

The girls basketball league builds communication, empathy, and teamwork by teaching fourth- and fifth-grade girls basketball skills so that they feel comfortable learning and playing with their peers. Engaging in Playworks leagues allows students to become a part of a team that promotes healthy competition and good sporting behavior, all at a critical developmental time period (ages 8-12). As part of this developmental league, girls basketball teams are encouraged to learn the fundamentals of basketball and focus on teamwork, inclusion, and fun rather than on competition. Scores are not kept in order to place full focus on character development and respect of the game and each other, rather than on winning and losing.

Parent engagement is a large part of the after-school activities. League night games allow parents to positively interact with their child through sports via four engagement opportunities: warm-up games, big group game, half-time challenge, and high-five tunnels.

If you believe in the power of play and the importance of feeling a part of a team, support our leagues today.
