Playworks Massachusetts Teacher of the Month, Mr. Hughes

  1. Updates

Mr. Hughes is an incredible third grade teacher at the West Somerville Neighborhood School in Somerville with Site Coordinator Caroline and Recess Coach Dick. He is a true believer in the power of play, getting his students active whenever he can. He is passionate about bringing his students outside for individual Playworks time, even during the winter months. Mr. Hughes can be found on the playground playing rounds of hula hoop tag and sprout ball with the entire third grade.

Throughout the day, Mr. Hughes is sure to keep his students moving through his quick minute moves and indoor recess games. Mr Hughes believes that play is an integral piece of his students learning, especially with social emotional skills, and he brings Playworks games into his classroom as brain breaks. With his playful personality and commitment to having his students have a successful recess, Mr. Hughes helps energize education at the West Somerville Neighborhood School.
