Recess matters, and people throughout Boston are taking note. The Boston Business Journal featured Playworks in an Outside the Box article in their October 2016 issue.

The Boston Business Journal’s story highlights the career path of executive director, Jonathan Gay. Jonathan was one of the founding employees who started Playworks in Boston in 2006 as a Playworks coach. During his tenure as a Playworks employee, he has helped grow Playworks from six elementary schools to 75 elementary schools in ten years.

This story highlights a few Playworks partners and supporters who are taking recess back. These partners recognize recess’ crucial role in optimizing a child’s physical and cognitive development and understand how learning and attention improve following a physically active break. Additionally, this article highlights the strategic growth plan of the regional office and its expansion efforts.
