Playworks means bettering the community around me by providing healthy play and creating positive relationships with students!

What is your favorite recess game?

My favorite recess game is high-five tag.

How did you find Playworks or what does Playworks mean to you?

I found Playworks when our Executive Director Chuck Warshaver observed my cousins class with Elevate Phoenix at Cesar Chavez High School and loved it! He told my cousin Playworks was hiring, who [then] told me. Now my brother is a coach too.

What is your favorite recess game?

I love the basketball game 21.

Interesting fact about yourself:

I'm really artistic. I love to paint and draw.

Playworks is an integral part of the school day.

I love three-line basketball.

How did you find Playworks or what does Playworks mean to you?

Playworks to me is watching my kids go out of their comfort zone and try new things. Not only is it a joy to teach kids life lessons through games, but also to see them grow as young leaders.

What is your favorite recess game?

Who stole the cookies. I love that my kids always start singing the song when they see me walk by.

An interesting fact about me is that I'm adopted.

I love being a part of Playworks because we change kids lives through the power of play every day!

Playworks is showing kids their potential and what they are truly capable of through play.

I love soccer!

I was introduced to Playworks by a former Playworks coach.

My favorite recess game is five-line soccer.

My brother introduced me to Playworks!  Shout out to my little brother, Coach Angel! 

What is your favorite recess game?

My favorite recess game is 3-Line Football.

I'm a Dallas Cowboys fan and I've been to AT&T Stadium a.k.a. Jerry World to see the Cowboys play!


Coach Mitzi Ortega

How did you find Playworks or what does Playworks mean to you?

To me, Playworks means a great contribution to world peace. When you bring out the best in every child through play, their confidence and self-esteem shines through the roof. Their ability to impact the world is endless!

What is your favorite recess game?

My favorite game is magic tag.

Interesting fact about yourself:

I like to do a lot of volunteer work. I was part of an 11-people group of leaders that worked together to raise $12,000 for an immigrant shelter in Nogales, Mexico in just two months. I also love to draw and get in touch with my creative side!

How did you find Playworks or what does Playworks mean to you?

It might sound creepy, but Craigslist. No lie. I typed in education because it's my passion to promote it! Playworks means positive opportunities for every kid. It's a way to build leadership skills, learn new games, work together, and to have fun!

What is your favorite recess game?

Foursquare! A little friendly competition can be serious fun!

Interesting fact about yourself:

I've been participating in Native American cultural pageants since I was two years old. This October, I competed in my 18th pageant! The unique thing about these pageants is we are judged on our cultural knowledge. Once in awhile, we get to wear an evening gown, but I'm thankful there is never a swimsuit competition!

To me, Playworks means to change the world.

My favorite recess game is definitely foursquare.

Coach Taylor Timms

School: Mary Mcleod Bethune School (Phoenix Elementary School District)

Hometown: Phoenix, Arizona

How did you find Playworks or what does Playworks mean to you?

I was an IA at Griffith Elementary, a school where Playworks was already established. I loved seeing kids independently playing and using skills that I had never before seen being used by someone their age. I also loved how kids were exposed to the values that Playworks had to offer. Playworks was something I wished I had when I was in elementary school.

What is your favorite recess game?

My favorite recess game is basketball. It was a sport I grew up playing so I feel comfortable and happy whenever I play.

Interesting fact about yourself:

I am mixed with Korean and Black and my afro is in fact real.

How did you find Playworks or what does Playworks mean to you?

To me, Playworks is a chance to make a difference. I am able to connect with students to build consistent and healthy relationships through games. It is my chance to energize students with positive experiences that will inspire them for years to come!

My favorite game is easily medic dodgeball!
