HopeLab is providing three scholarships to youth workers, parents, teachers and other play advocate to attend Play On 2010 at Columbia University in New York, October 12-13. HopeLab is a non-profit working to harness the power and appeal of technology to improve kids health. They will be pay registration fees for three lucky play advocates to attend our two day conference and dinner.
Play On is a hands-on, interactive conference for parents, teachers, youth workers, and other play advocates to learn how to build a safe, healthy community that values play. This year's conference features:
- ABC Good Morning America's news anchor, Juju Chang
- Professor and author of The Hurried Child and The Power of Play, Dr. David Elkind
- Soccer star and sports commentator Julie Foudy
- Pedro Noguera, noted professor of Education at NYU and most recently author of The Trouble With Black Boys and Other Reflections on Race, Equity and the Future of Public Education,
- Dr. Toni Yancey, public health professor and co-director of UCLA's Kaiser Permanente Center for Health Equity, and author of Instant Recess: Building a Fit Nation -- 10 Minutes at at Time
Participants will walk away with the knowledge to create a school wellness policy, transform a recess yard from chaos to calm, lead kids yoga, make play fun and accessible to every child, get girls into the game and reconnect to the outdoors.
For more information, please check out http:/playonconference.org/. To apply for a scholarship, click the link below and fill out the short online form by September 15. Winners will be announced the week of September 20, 2010.
One day rates are also available for those who only have a single day to participate but want to learn how to protect and promote recess, play and physical activity in their communities.
